Memorial Day Ceremony Observed: Two Nations, Two Free Countries, Two Democracies

28 May 2017, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Taguig City – The Embassy of the United States of America, together with the American Association of the Philippines (AAP) and other partnered institutions and organizations, commemorated the American Memorial Day Ceremony. The Secretary of National Defense, Delfin N. Lorenzana, headed the Philippine delegation.

Michael Klecheski, Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i., of the Embassy of the United States of America, emphasized that the Memorial Day Ceremony gives the highest respect to the sacrifices of the American soliders who fought side by side with the Filipinos in gaining back the Philippines’ liberty from the aggressors. He also said that the Memorial Day also strengthens the established bond between the Philippines and the United States of America.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Vice Admiral Narciso Vingson AFP, expressed his high regard to the heroes who had won against the enemy through blood and tears. These fighters, according to him, endured dangers to achieve glory in the end.

The Embassy of the United States of America and the AAP intensely encouraged the public to visit the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial to appreciate the heroic deeds not only of the Filiinos who fought during the World War II but also the unselfish act of Americans who volunteered their lives for other nation’s freedom.
