66th Anniversary of the Battle of Yuldong Honored
By  Denver A. Moreno [ 5/9/2017 ]

26 April 2017, Libingan Ng Mga Bayani, Taguig City — The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) and PEFTOK Veterans Association, Inc. commemorated the 66th Anniversary of the Battle of Yuldong with the theme “Ang PEFTOKER: Huwaran at Pampasigla Para sa Kabataan”.

In honor of the gallant soldiers, who fought as part of the Philippine Expeditionary Forces to Korea (PEFTOK) during the historic Battle, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Korean Memorial Pylon, Libingan Ng Mga Bayani.

During the event, LtGen Ernesto G. Carolina, AFP (Ret), PVAO Administrator mentioned in his inspirational speech that our young Filipinos and young Koreans should continue the tradition in commemorating the Battle of Yuldong as a sign of an established friendship between the Korean and the Filipino people as well as reminiscing the heroism of our Korean War veterans during the battle years.

LtGen. Arthur I. Tabaquero, AFP (Ret), Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs, son of PEFTOK veteran 2Lt. Luciano Tabaquero (Ret) finds the Battle of Yuldong an important chapter in Philippine history.

General Tabaquero related the sacrifices of war veterans like the PEFTOK veterans to the current efforts of the Government for a restrained and peaceful dialogue as the Battle reminds us that peace and continued progress serve the best interest of all nations.

Among the 16 UN member-nations, which deployed their group forces to South Korea during the Korean War, Philippines was the very first Asian country, which courageously took the lead in heading to the war zone.  It is said that Filipino casualties during the Battle of Yuldong included 112 killed, 299 wounded, and, 16 declared missing-in-action up to the present./D.Moreno
