2011 Women's Month Celebration
The month of March is based on the following legislative namely; Proclamation No. 224 "Declaring the First Week of March of Every Year as Women's Week and March 8, 1988 and Every Eear Thereafter as Women's Rights and International Peace Day; Proclamation No. 227 "Providing for the Observance of the Month of March as Women's Role in History Month" signed by the former Pres. Corazon Aquino on March 17, 1988; and Republic Act No. 6949 "An Act to Declare March Eight of Every Year as a Working Special Holiday to be known as National Women's Day" as signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on April 10, 1990 This year, we would like to celebrate it more meaningfully in line with this year's theme: "Magna Carta of Women, Philippine CEDAW: In support of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). This year's celebration is anchored on the importance of RA 9710 of the Magna Carta of Women, the national translation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women or the CEDAW, to the achievement of the 8 Millenium Development Goals, namely:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development

Dra. Pilar H. de Ocampo, Ms. Rissa Hontiveros-Baraquel, and Atty. Anthonette V. Allones - These are the three noted 'GADvocates' who graced the Monday flag-raising ceremony of PVAO in the agency's efforts to promote awareness and sensitivity to Gender and Development (GAD) issues and concerns among its employees.
Dra. Pilar H. de Ocampo is a World War II veteran and the wife of VFP President Emmanuel de Ocampo. She talked about her invaluable experiences as part of the medical battalion and how a female can contribute to the Philippines' advancement during war.
Ms. Rissa Hontiveros-Baraquel, a well-known human rights advocate, media personality, former legislator, and spokesperson of the AKBAYAN Partylist spoke on certain GAD advocacies as espoused in the Magna Carta of Women.
Meanwhile, Atty. Anthonette V. Allones, the Executive Director of the Career Executive Service Board (CESB) encouraged PVAO personnel to aim for career advancement by partaking in the programs of CESB.
Through GAD, PVAO has worked to advance, inspire, and support development policy and practice to achieve a gender responsive development in the workplace. By sharing the thoughts and experiences related to GAD, PVAO aims to motivate our personnel to become better GAD believers and doers.
